BBC News interviews Marco Cappa.

Marco Cappa, who heads the youth wing of the European Parliament’s centrist European Democratic Party group, was among those taking part.

“It was so nice that Italians, Chinese and all the communities of foreign people were marching together,” he told the BBC News website.

A solidarity rally was also held in Italy’s business capital, Milan.
The Chinese consul in Florence, Zhou Yunqi, said Chinese people should be “ready to defend themselves”.

“They need to be more aware of the risks they take when they carry sums of money in cash,” he added.

Italian President Giorgio Napolitano has visited Mr Zheng’s widow in hospital to express his condolences.
Gianni Alemanno, Rome’s centre-right mayor, promised a crackdown on crime but he was accused by political opponents of failing to control violent crime in the city.
Marco Cappa called on Mr Alemanno to resign.

There is the will to stop the crime wave that is sweeping the capital,” he said.

“It is an exceptional security emergency and exceptional should be the response because such a tragedy cannot be unpunished. Yesterday, Romans stood up for this.”

Police are seeking two Moroccan men, aged 30 and 20, who were recorded by CCTV fleeing the murder scene on a scooter.
The older suspect was previously jailed in Italy for robbery and receiving stolen goods but did not leave the country as required at the end of his sentence, the Italian news website Tgcom24 reports.

Marco Cappa addressed his keynote about the common fight for democracy between YDE and ILFRY. He quoted MLK: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Night 4 Democracy

On the behalf of recent tragic events in Syria, we decided to organize a sit-in protest in front of the Syrian embassies of European Union countries.

A marathon for the defense of democracy and freedom in Syria and the whole Middle East. The all-night-long rally starts from Rome Wednesday, November 30th 2011 at 6pm with the YDE President Marco Cappa and all the Italian political youth organizations (among them of course API Youth). Then moving to Paris with the Young Democrats of Bayrou and so on in other Member States throughout the night.

The YDE Council stated: “We can not accept that protesters adn civilians are killed while human rights are trampled on in Syria. We therefore require the creation of humanitarian corridors.”

Egypt, CAPPA: Curfew at 6 pm would cause a tragedy

“The rumors coming from the bloggers and the young liberals and democrats from Egypt create serious concern. If the army imposes a curfew at 6pm, there will be a serious risk of a tragedy as in the square tonight are expected about a million protesters” this declared Marco Cappa after a series of phone conversations and twitter converstions with the young leaders of the revolution in Tahrir Square, Cairo.

“The General Tantawi has to resign as soon as possible and to promote free elections. The spirit of revolution is alive and young people are demonstrating that they do not want to see how the dictatorship of Mubarak passes to the new military establishment nor to the illiberal and conservative forces of the Muslim Brotherhood “- continues Cappa, who as President of Young Democrats for Europe has known and met all the leaders of the Tahrir Movement.

“We will launch a new phase in Egypt. The fact that in these minutes in the square also two army generals have arrived  to espress solidarity to the cause of the protesters is the symbol that something is changing”.
