Our History
The Young Democrats for Europe (YDE) is the youth wing of the European Democratic Party, headquartered in Brussels.
YDE was announced on 9 May 2007, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, and was formally established during its inaugural conference on 22 September 2007 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Its founding members included the youth wings of the seven founding political parties of the European Democratic Party (EDP).
Since its inception, YDE has evolved into a vibrant and influential organization, holding numerous congresses in Brussels, Bilbao, Paris, and online. Today, YDE comprises 13 full members across 10 European countries, along with partnerships in a dozen other European countries.
YDE enjoys strong relationships and close cooperation with both the European Democratic Party (EDP) and the Institute of European Democrats (IED). These partnerships enhance its capacity to promote democratic values, foster youth participation in politics, and advocate for a united and sustainable Europe.
YDE is governed by a board of 13 members, led by its president, Alice Bernard-Montini. All board members represent parties with membership status within the organization, ensuring cohesive representation and active collaboration among European youth.
